The Vault – Batman: Arkham City Game of the Year Edition

The Retcon Punchers spend an awful lot of time looking for ways to celebrate our nerdy obsessions. This means a lot of time sunk into scouring Etsy, Deviant Art, Think Geek or whatever. Sometimes we see things so great we just have to share them… and then clutch them fiercely to our collective chest. Throw it in The Vault.

Who Would Love This: People who haven’t played Arkham City yet because they were too busy with Skyrim, videogamers everywhere

Price: $50

The Batman ‘Arkham’ games have been some of the best superhero videogames I have ever played, bar none. Arkham Asylum was really good. Arkham City is FANTASTIC. If, for whatever reason you haven’t played this game yet, this Game of the Year Edition is totally worth every penny. Not only does it cost the same as the game did new, it comes with everything, and more. The included Catwoman story, while not required to beat the game adds another element to the main story to the point where you would be missing out without it. The GoY Edition also includes the Robin and Nightwing DLC, which has additional challenge maps and you get to plays as your favorite Boy Wonders. Also, for extra fun, you get the Batman Skins pack which lets you change Batman’s costume. Most fun is the Batman Beyond costume, which has no cape, but retractable wings.

So all of the above stuff, the Skins, the Robin and Nightwing packs, depending on where/when you bought your copy of the game, you had to pay extra for that, and download it separately. So now we’re saving money. Also in the GoY pack is Harley’s Revenge. This is COMPLETELY NEW content that adds 2 HOURS of story gameplay. In this you alternate between playing as Batman and Robin. This story takes place AFTER the main story, so play it after. (For those of you who already own Arkham City, this content will be available to for download on PSN and Xbox Live for $9.99/800pts)

Lastly, the GoY edition also includes a download code for the Batman: Year One animated feature. This feature is relatively new, and it is really good. If follows the classic storyline very closely, like the Watchmen movie, but it still is very well done, and a good way to get to know that story if you don’t already.

This is a GREAT buy if you don’t already have Arkham City and have been looking for a chance to jump in.

  1. I’m really excited for the Harley Quinn’s Revenge story content. I maxed out everything in the story and tried to get as much satisfaction out of the challenge maps, but they start to feel like a chore after a while.

    • I also maxed out my story, and most of the challenge maps for Nightwing and Robin. Then my X Box overheated and fried my HDD. I just started over last week, and am playing through the story on hard to try to get to at least the end so I am ready for the new content, plus finishing as much of the extra stuff as possible. Plus I’m juggling time with Diablo 3 and WoW.

      • An Arkham Citier and a WoWer? Did you try DCU Online? I grabbed it up when it was free to download and play on the PS3, but didn’t get very far before deciding I just didn’t have MMORPG in my blood.

    • I’ve had no experience with this game at all, though I did live with somebody who was playing through the first game. I really love this interpretation of Batman, scary and mysterious, stealthy and intelligent, and drawing liberally from B:TAS. It’s clearly created by folks with the same experience of Batman that I had growing up. I’m looking forward to whenever I do get to experience this game.

  2. Where do you guys find the time to game? I need to finish Arkham City and Portal, START Skullgirls… when I find myself with free time, all I want to do is veg on the couch. LIKE A VEGETABLE.

    • I played Arkham City when I had neither a blog or a comic book website. And Portal 2 doesn’t actually take that much time SMILEY-WINKING-EMOTICON. I don’t know how anyone has time to play Skyrim, and that includes the unemployed.
