Jessica Jones 1

Today, Spencer and Ryan M. are discussing Jessica Jones 1, originally released October 5th, 2016. As always, this article contains SPOILERS.

Spencer: Befitting her job as a private investigator, mystery is a vital element of the Jessica Jones mythos. It’s probably why my favorite episode of the Netflix series is the one that put the ongoing Kilgrave story on hold to solve an unrelated case of the week, and it’s also why the first issue of the new Jessica Jones relaunch works so well — Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos don’t just build a mystery around Jessica’s newest case, they turn her very life into a mystery that the audience, and perhaps even Jessica herself, need to solve. Today, Ryan and Taylor are discussing Josie and the Pussycats 1, originally released September 28th, 2016.

Ryan: As a longtime Archie comics reader, I’ve read quite a few Josie and the Pussycat stories. I remember the blond ditzy drummer, their shady manager, their frenemy with a white streak in her hair who was sometimes a literal witch, and the striped leotards. I couldn’t tell you much about Josie herself. She is a redhead and nice, I think? After reading Josie and the Pussycats 1, I still couldn’t tell you much more about Josie. Continue reading

Superwoman 2

Today, Ryan M. and Taylor are discussing Superwoman 2, originally released September 14th, 2016. As always, this article contains SPOILERS.

Ryan M.: If I read a novel in one sitting, I retain next to nothing. The plots, characters, and relationships all start to run together in my mind. I read an entire new adult series about college football players and the girls who love them in the past week and I couldn’t tell you any of the character’s names. I think one was Dallas? Too much story in a finite space leads to nothing making much of an impact. That’s how I feel about Superwoman 2, an issue with so much happening, that nothing has very much meaning.
