The Vault – Deputy Lantern iPad Cover

The Retcon Punchers spend an awful lot of time looking for ways to celebrate our nerdy obsessions. This means a lot of time sunk into scouring Etsy, Deviant Art, Think Geek or whatever. Sometimes we see things so great we just have to share them… and then clutch them fiercely to our collective chest. Throw it in The Vault.

Website: Zazzle

Who Would Love This: Blackest Night fans, deputy enthusiasts, people who thought The Flash wasn’t already over-powered

Price: $56.20

There are actually a bunch of products with this image on it. I chose this one specifically, because if you own an iPad and you’re on this website, you’re probably reading comics on that thing from time to time. ADMIT IT! This iPad cover depicts the single coolest moment of Blackest Night – the moment the rings seek out deputies on Earth to aid in the fight against Neckron and the Black Lanterns. It’s not likely that we’ll ever see these characters like this again – one of the few downsides of the relaunch… Immortalize this once-in-the-multiverse moment by using the entire emotional spectrum to protect your $600 tablet.

    • THE ATOM! Thanks for explaining that one — I recognized everybody else, but I was going to have to be a Blackest Night n00b and ask who the Indigo was. What is it with Indigos and being so mysterious?

        • Wait, he did? Does Ganthet have power over the other rings in the spectrum (other than blue and green OBVIOUSLY)? I thought the rings did it on their own.

I’ll conduct some research when I get home.

        • Okay, I clearly know nothing about Blackest Night, but why would a Green ring need to take a deputy on Earth? Don’t we already have a few Green Lanterns floating around?

  1. Despite the obvious differences in rings, they are all based on Oan technology. Also, the Book of Oa says that during the Blackest Night the rings may deputize one person for 24 hours. Ganthet activates this safeguard in all the rings. Probably with his mind. They do this to double their efforts against Nekron, while buying time for the Indigo Tribe to get all of the lanterns from the universe to Earth. The rings still look for their emotions in others, and Ganthet probably was the closest being with the most willpower on Earth, especially since Kyle, John and Guy were on Oa at the time, fighting the Black Lantern invasion force.
