The Vault – Wonder Woman Heels

The Retcon Punchers spend an awful lot of time looking for ways to celebrate our nerdy obsessions. This means a lot of time sunk into scouring Etsy, Deviant Art, Think Geek or whatever. Sometimes we see things so great we just have to share them… and then clutch them fiercely to our collective chest. Throw it in The Vault.

Who Would Love This: Women (and men, I suppose) who love high heels and Wonder Woman, a super narcissistic version of Wonder Woman

Price: $125

I have to apologize to the guys here at Retcon Punch. Firstly, because I’ve been a little Wonder Woman-crazy lately, and secondly, because I have chosen an item for the Vault that probably appeals only to me. I can’t help it, though, because these shoes are the shit. I had seen these floating around the internet, but when my good pal Heath sent me a link, I knew I had to talk about them. I love these. I would love to wear these around town. I would love to pair them with a simple little black dress, so that nothing else I’m wearing can distract from how awesome these shoes are. They are pricey, which is unfortunate, but they are hand-made to order, so it’s understandable. Sadly, the Etsy seller is currently on vacation, so if you have to have these, you’re just going to have to cool your heels (ha!) until June 1 when she gets back.

Who Would Love This: Little old ladies with big picture windows facing their flower gardens, regular people with regular windows

Price: $45

I like the idea of proclaiming my nerdy allegiance to the world. Not just by hanging things up in my living room, no no. I mean the WHOLE world, including the part of the world that doesn’t see the inside of my house. That’s where this bright little piece comes in. Hang this lovely stained glass in your window, and suddenly, you have a shining beacon of your love for Wonder Woman, and all she stands for. Not only will this brighten your day, but it will let everyone else know that dammit, you like Wonder Woman, and you don’t care who knows it!

Who Would Love This: Computer people who don’t already have better solution for this

Price: $9.92 – $22.95

We all need data storage, right? SURE YOU DO! Yeah cloud storage and Drop Boxes and web-based email account may render the need for physical data storage totally obsolete, but in the meantime, let’s make sure our flash drives look like DC superheros. Look how big their heads are! That implies so much storage potential. Also, hilariously, there isn’t one for The Flash. Whu?

The Vault – Batman Night Light

Who Would Love This: People who are afraid of the dark, small children, Commissioner Gordon

Price: $9.99

While this may seem slightly juvenile, this is really kinda cool. And yes, I totally had one that was similar as a child. I cannot think of any other item that could possibly make you feel safe at night than this night light. The guys over at ThinkGeek are always pretty funny, and they even include this light’s ability to summon Batman in the item description. This light can help you combat the Scarecrow and his fear toxin as you drift off the sleep. I would not be surprised if somewhere you can get other character night lights, but really, this is the only one that you will ever need or want. Never be afraid of the dark again.

Who Would Love This: People who wear bow ties, PeeWee Herman

Price: $12.25 each

Bow ties have been making a come back as of late, and all the nerds don’t want to be left behind! While these are a little narrow in terms of events and such that you could wear them at. I feel that there are only a few very specific types of weddings that you could wear one of these bow ties at, for example. I wish that we could see Jimmy Olsen wearing a Superman bow tie, it would be sweet. There is also the option to choose your bow tie for the appropriate occasion or day. Maybe you’re feeling rather super, wear the Superman tie. Going to NASA for a tour? Martian Manhunter tie has you covered. Chasing storms? Red Tornado.

Who Would Love This: Art fans, gritty superhero movie fans, gritty superhero movie art fans

Price: $70.00

My love for secret nerd art is well documented. No one should be surprised that I like these. NO ONE. These prints look like old concert posters whose colors have run in the rain, or slapdash grafitti: they’re old, messy, and kind of dirty-looking. The artist, who goes by Harshness on Etsy, has a ton of very minimalist and graphically striking posters, any of which I would love. This full set of Justice League posters is probably my favorite, although he has a X-Men set that is also awesome. Plus, apparently he’s having a buy one, get one sale right now! So, if you don’t really have the wall space for the whole League, you can get Superman and Batman for the low low price of Superman alone! What a deal!

Who Would Love This: Sleepy/lazy cosplayers

Price: $29.99

You may be familiar with the distinctly unheroic feeling you get vegging-out in front of the TV, but have you considered the possibility that the problem lies in the unheroic nature of the blanket you use to keep your lazy ass warm? Well, the good folks over at Super Hero Stuff have considered that possibility, and have come up with their own solution: a Snuggie® with Green Lantern’s body printed on it. Part boardwalk cut-out, part blanket, this item takes the “superhero shirt with fake muscles” phenomenon to its logical conclusion, even depicting muscle-bound legs on people who can’t even be bothered to stand for cosplaying. Hope you always imagined Hal Jordan with Dorito-stained fingers!

Website: Good Guy Comics

Who Would Love This: Drinkers with very specific groups of friends

Price: $79.99

If you worry that people are going to drink out of your glass because they all look the same, this set of Lantern Corps-themed pint glasses is for you (or at least the Avarice glass). Toast l’chaim with the Life glass, give your designated driver the Will glass, or just turn glass selection into an incredibly nerdy party game (as if there were any other kind). Really though, there’s a glass for everyone’s drinking style: the Rage glass for angry drunks, the Love glass for horny drunks, and the Compassion glass for friendly drunks. Things might get weird for the person using the Death glass, but nine is kind of a weird number for a party anyway.

Who Would Love This: Anyone who would have to find street parking in downtown Gotham otherwise

Price: $3.00 (or a buck, if you buy it with anything else)

Look we all know that it’s fun to go to the park near Wayne Tower tower downtown. It’s such a hassle to take public transit (two trains and a bus or three buses) and driving isn’t an option because parking in a garage is damn-near unaffordable. Plus, you never know when there’s going to be some secret meeting or fist fight breaking out in one of those things. No, you’ve got to get this Wayne Technologies (a division of Wayne Enterprises, I guess) so you can park in the employee parking structure under the building. OR IT’S ALL FICTION and you could just jam this sticker in your windshield and wait your entire life and still not have anyone notice. Shelby, this is secret nerdery stretched to its logical breaking point.

Website: The Art of Mark Dos Santos

Who Would Love This: Batman fans, Norman Rockwell fans, fans of irony and Americana

Price: $10.00

This edition of the Vault is special, because NOT ONLY did I get the distinct pleasure of meeting Mr. Dos Santos at C2E2, I actually purchased this fine print, along with two others. This is one of those sorts of prints that I call “secret nerd art.” These are probably more obvious than, say, my Firefly vintage travel posters, but they still count. I love things that, at a glance, are not nerdy at all. It’s only if you look closer and are a nerd that you see just how big of a geek I am. I am going to frame all three of these lovely signed prints and hang them proudly in my living room. Plus, Mr. Dos Santos informed me that is going to be starting a Kickstarter to make a coffee table style art book of his prints, so keep your eyes open for that.
